This is the Central General Post Office in Hong Kong, which has served the city’s residents for decades.

Completed in 1976, the building has served Hong Kong for nearly half a century. It has long functioned as the headquarters of Hong Kong Post and has been an important public facility in the Central district, witnessing the city’s development over the years.

However, with redevelopment plans for the Central waterfront area, including the Central Yards project, the site is expected to undergo major changes.

According to the land lease conditions set by the government, the developer is required to remove the existing structure as part of the redevelopment.

If the plans proceed as scheduled, this public building—once serving countless Hong Kong residents—may disappear from the city’s landscape in the coming years.

Located behind the Hong Kong Observation Wheel, the Central General Post Office is regarded as one of the representative examples of modernist public architecture in Hong Kong. In the future, it may remain only in history and collective memory.
